Go Sheila Go (also Doug!!)

Day Two of MDC saw more great sessions and more gadgets and more geeks and I loved it all the more!!

Later on in the day - after all the sessions and tech-talk it was time for some fun, And boy were the speakers - Doug Boling, Ed Kaim, Kevin Lisota, Kevin Collins, Sheila Gulati, Abhishek Kant and Gaurav Khanna - in for a great surprise when they were invited on stage for the "Developer's Idol" contest!!

Modelled on the lines of the "American Idol" contest - the contestants had to do some crazy and wacky stuff and answer some tricky questions to avoid being eliminated to advance closer to the spectacular crown made of rare and precious ...

... paper!!

The audience was in for a great treat of quizzing, dancing and what not in the quest to discover the developer idol. The event started with the contestants trying to sell/market a product. Round two was a question-answer round with the audience asking some great and wierd non-technical questions. These rounds saw some elimination and our Indian developers were unfortunately dropped. The third round was the best - The Kaanta Laga Dance round, which saw Sheila and Doug coming out as top contenders for the crown! Doug charmed the audience with his Russian dance and Sheila moved like a pro! Damn it would have been fun to see Gaurav or Abhishek dance!

The Developers doing a 'Kaanta Laga'!

Ultimately it was down to two people and the audience had to decide the winner and although Sheila tried to bribe Doug - the crowd went with Doug all the way! Congrats Douglas Boling on being crowned the Developer Idol 2004!! The show had the very charming Subhashini as one of the hosts who had spent some anxious moments earlier in the day getting the show organised! All in all it was a great show!

Phew after all the drama and action it was time for some serious talk at the INETA round table conference - an exclusive interaction with the geeks. Sanjay Shetty got things started before making a quiet exit to catch his flight. The rest of us who were dying to talk to the developers then took over and got a lot of our queries answered by the pros, who inspite of being very tired still answered our questions with a smile. Passion for technology was running through their bloods and kept them going - although Doug did doze of once in a while!
