Shield the joyous...
I got this lovely prayer from a friend a couple of days back -
"Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, sooth the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen."
What struck us was the line 'shield the joyous' - nowadays the joyous are such a rare sight - almost extinct - that we must pray that the few that are truely joyous remain that way.
Somehow none of us seem to be truely happy and joyous nowadays, and there seem to be fewer occassions that leave us joyous, which makes the prayer all the more significant...
